Take the Guesswork Out of Painting

A fresh coat of paint can transform a space, but running out of paint midway through a job is frustrating. Conversely, ending up with several half-empty cans is a waste of money and resources. This calculator provides a reliable estimate based on simple measurements, helping you plan your project like a professional.

How the Calculation Works

The calculation is straightforward:

  1. Calculate Total Area: First, we find the area of a single wall (Width × Height). Then, we multiply that by the number of walls to get the total square footage to be painted.
  2. Factor in Coats: Since most projects require at least two coats for a uniform finish, we multiply the total area by the number of coats you plan to apply.
  3. Determine Gallons Needed: Finally, we divide the total coated area by the paint's coverage rate (usually found on the side of the paint can, typically 350-400 sq. ft. per gallon). This gives the total number of gallons required.
