A stable welding arc is like a steady hand for a surgeon—it's essential for precise, high-quality work. A stable arc is characterized by a consistent sound (a "crackling bacon" sound in MIG, a smooth hiss in TIG), minimal spatter, and a well-defined, controllable weld pool. An unstable arc, on the other hand, will wander, sputter, and be difficult to control, leading to defects like porosity, spatter, and inconsistent penetration.
