Weld Gas Consumption Estimator
A crucial tool for project planning and cost estimation. Estimate the total volume of shielding gas you will need for a welding job based on arc time and flow rate.
Don't Run Out of Gas
Shielding gas is a major consumable cost in MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding. Running out of gas mid-project can bring work to a halt, causing costly delays. Estimating your gas consumption beforehand allows for accurate budgeting and ensures you have enough cylinders on-site to complete the job without interruption.
How the Calculation Works
The calculation is a simple multiplication of flow rate and time:
Total Volume = Flow Rate (L/min) × Arc Time (min)
The key is to use the correct "Arc Time"—the actual time the arc is on and gas is flowing—not the total labor time. You can estimate Arc Time using our separate Welding Time Estimator tool.
